Commander Thomas P. Moninger

CDR Tom Moninger earned his commission and a Bachelor of Science degree in History from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1994. In his first assignments, he served in USS MITSCHER (DDG 57), completed nuclear power training, and then served in USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (CVN 69). His subsequent sea tours were in USS THORN (DD 988) as Combat Systems Officer and USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73) as Main Propulsion Assistant. More recently, he completed an Executive Officer tour in USS PRINCETON (CG 59).

Ashore, CDR Moninger earned a Master of Arts in International Relations from the University of Maryland. He later served as the Executive Officer of Naval Air Forces Atlantic’s Surface Nuclear Propulsion Mobile Training Team. After completed his joint professional military education and earning a Master of Arts in International Relations from the Naval War College, he served in the J5/Iraq Division of the Joint Staff.

Commander Moninger’s personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Commendation (five awards), and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards) in addition to various unit citations and campaign awards.
